Testimonials from Teachers

About Palms:

Karen Henry used Palms to create Tessellations with Pre-Algebra; this previewed what students would then construct using Geometer’s Sketchpad in the labs. She later used the Palms with Math 7 when she got to that concept with them. She told Jodi Ford and we did the same lesson with her Pre-Algebra students prior to using Geometer’s Sketchpad.

Toni Chaney is currently using the Palms for a poetry unit. Students are using PicoMap to brainstorm ideas. Then they attach keyboards and compose poetry in Word to Go. They beam to the teacher Palm and later print and/or save to disk. Next they go to the lab for desktop publishing. They retrieve their files (that were beamed to the teacher) from the classes folder.

Jennifer Luck: Students used Sketchy on the Palms to create animation during a TAG workshop.  Palms are innovative in that quickly a student can brainstorm, compose, and send a draft to the teacher. Student interest and engagement as well as productivity are heightened.

Unitedstreaming:

I use them when I am teaching my lessons.  I import them into a keynote and the kids can watch a quick 2 minute movie on an idea.  Great for topics that are hard to do hands - on things with (space is a great example)

The students were impressed and enjoyed viewing the videos I used in my Intro to Foreign Language class and in my ESL classes. They learned cultural items and responded to questions I had created. It gave the FL class the opportunity to practice and view the languages in a different venue than the teacher setting.

United Streaming has made a great impact on my students, especially those with special needs. They have a movie right in front of them which (a) keeps their attention, (b) allows them to answer questions at their own pace, and (c) lets them do their own learning. Students rarely grasp a concept if they are lectured to or shown a keynote presentation everyday.

My students have benefited from video streaming. I am able to create documents that they can review over and over to help them "visually see" and certain concepts. For example, the Bernoulli Principle and air pressure can be difficult to explain, but by

using the video clip offered by video streaming, my students are able to understand these and many other principles more fully. They are able to go over and over the clip and review it to help them understand.

Students enjoy the videos. It it more exciting than getting the same information from a book or answering questions on a worksheet. It allows students to utilize their i-Books

The students love viewing the movies from United Streaming. It gives them an alternative way to gain an understanding of social studies concepts.

Increased the use of short films, to accentuate important themes within World History and American Government

2) How has the use of United Streaming changed the way you teach?

It brings some of the topics "alive" to kids that are looking at me like I am speaking a different language:)  It helps them see an experiment happen, that I don't have the resources to show them.

This has given me another tool to use, and all good teachers are looking for new ideas to incorporate into their lessons. I frequently use the clips to introduce new concepts as well as use them to reinforce what has already been introduced.

It has changed the way that I teach, getting me out of the lecture mode and giving the students a chance to learn differently. I really like it and plan to continue using it for the rest of the year for author studies.

I was able to have students work individually on the new vocabulary and it gave the opportunity to learn at their own pace and listen as many times as necessary to comprehend and understand the pronunciation.

It has provided me with another great teaching tool. I have enjoyed integrating the movies into my lessons. I have used the movies as a way to introduce units and as a way to review

This has helped me create more interactive lessons for my students. I do even more research before presenting a topic, just to see if there is anything from United Streaming I could use. A few concepts I teach are not in the book, so I downloaded movies from US and added them to an Appleworks document, wrote questions for the kids to fill out on that same document, and they did their own learning. My students grasp concepts if they can teach themselves or others, and US allows this to happen.
